Climate Care Cattle Farming Systems

Development of climate smart care cattle farming systems reducing GHG and ammonia emissions.

WP2

WP2 (In depth monitoring of emissions) – detailed research in combination with input from literature will be used to assess practices and techniques expected to contribute to a sustainable farm management. Detailed measurements will take place in experimental units and pilot farms.

Tasks: 2.1.1. Study and monitor innovative housing systems; 2.1.2. Study and monitor manure storages and innovative handling techniques; 2.2.1. Study and monitor novel feeding practices related to animal; 2.2.2. Study and monitor novel feeding practices related to crops (will study the effects of grazing / no grazing and feeding on GHG emissions); Task 2.3. Relate novel breeding traits to cow methane output; 2.4.1. Study and monitor grazing and fertilization practices and techniques; 2.4.2. Study grass species, soil and biodiversity in relation to emissions and C-sequestration; 2.4.3. Perspective of using drones (The potential use of drones using newly developed sensors to identify hotspots of CH4 and CO2 emissions linked to a real time kinematic positioning system will be evaluated at a farm scale).
